According to its organizers, the Beirut Fashion Week is “one of the biggest international events hosted in Lebanon and the region”. Indeed, the event is reciprocated in other cities such as New York, London, Milan and Paris, and is thereby an extension of a worldwide cultural trend.
The fashion week’s 2017 edition held last week at the Forum de Beyrouth featured local and international fashion designers and brands that showcased their latest collections. The event’s only goals were to promote fashion and charity, as it hoped to unite many fashion lovers. The event did more than that last week. We witnessed numerous VIP guests that ranged from politicians – such as Prime Minister Saad Hariri, a notable patron of the event – bloggers, TV presenters, and sponsors. The event started on the 17th of April with a pre-opening charity show that featured Azhari Amal and Paolo Bongia. This was followed by a red carpet event and a gala dinner.
The first official runway day was on the 18th of April, with Jamil Khansa, Maison Roula and Abed Mahfouz introducing their works. It continued the next day with the presentation of designs by Nadwa Al-Awarm, Hanna Touma, and Akl Fakih. Participants took a break on the 20th of April with presentations intended to empower young upcoming designers, encouraging talents, awarding scholarships and creating job opportunities!
The event resumed on the 21st of April with designers Sadek Majed and Mireille Dagher, continuing the next day with Houeiter and Sakina Paris. On the 23rd of April, the event concluded with an after party entitled “Les Personnages”.
